This is a group of trained Ambassadors Of Change (A.O.C.) based in Karatina - Gitunditi area. the group has been able to reach a very large number of youth around there area and across other areas. Some of the ways that they use in capturing the attention of the youth is by organizing football tournaments. This activity pulls the youth from all the surrounding villages i.e. Gikumbo, Gitunduti, Karatina Town, Kanjuri and Gatei.
The group has a functional Resource Center where it is open to the Youth to access and get Educational materials and Condoms for free. The group is aimed at leaving a community better than they found it, more so their main focus is to see that alcohol uptake by the youth is reduced so have a sober and productive community.

Advocacy Campaign
The 2012 10 DoAwas a platform for youth organizations and young people from many diverse countries to raise their voices on youth Sexual and Reproductive Health and Rights needs and remind governments to take action on the committed issuesin agreement with the Youth Rights Strategy implemented by the youth coalition and supported by United Nations Population Fund (UNFPA). The momentum of the event was largely contributed from the previous year’s enthusiasm and the activists’ recognition of Y-PEER as a strong network.
Therefore, in 10 DoA2012 we will organize several activities in approximately 50 countries between 1st-10thSeptember 2012 to have mutual dialogues with our governments on their youth SEXUAL AND REPRODUCTIVE HEALTH AND RIGHTS commitments, organize activities ranging from street actions to trainings, and raise awareness on youth SEXUAL AND REPRODUCTIVE HEALTH AND RIGHTS issues in our respective communities.
All of these activities will be shared and promoted through social media to attract international attention to local actions.
10 DoA outreach and advocacy campaign to engage young people and raise their voices all around the world about their sexual and reproductive health and rights. Aiming to strengthen young people’s capacities at the national level to advocate for their sexual and reproductive rights among their peers and policy makers.
GOAL AND OBJECTIVES OF THE 10 DOA 2012
Goal:
Mobilizing youth organizations and youth activist to advocate for rights-based youth centered development agenda at national and global level.
Objectives:
•Mobilize young people from 50 countries to organize community based actions towards rights – based youth centered development agenda.
•Strengthen cooperation within youth SEXUAL AND REPRODUCTIVE HEALTH AND RIGHTS groups in order to bring grass root activism to international attention.
•Highlight at least 30 youth led actions that are advancing rights-based youth centered SEXUAL AND REPRODUCTIVE HEALTH AND RIGHTS development agenda through local community channels and social media.
•Mobilizing young people to contact decision makers in their communities in at least 30 countries to lobby for rights-based youth centered development agenda.
b. Theme of the campaign
"Nothing for us, without us"
We were born with the right of meaningful participation in all the decision-making process and bodies from the start to the finish line, and to act only as recipients! 5
10 DoA will emphasize the theme that youth should be centralto the global development agenda. However this should be done with us and not for us. In this method, youth will be able to: make the decisions, take active roles in all phases of decisionmaking that affects our lives, and enter leadership roles to address and promote the issues that matter for us including sexual and reproductive health and rights.
c. Data on young people related to theme
Young people make up almost half of the world’s 7 billion population (with 1.2 billion between the ages of 10 and 19)1
In 2009, youth aged 15 to 24 years accounted for 41% of all new adult HIV infections.
In 2009, about 5 million young people were living with HIV worldwide, with 76% living in sub-Saharan Africa2
About 16 million girls aged 15 to 19 years give birth every year - roughly 11% of all births worldwide.3
In 2008, 21.6 million unsafe abortions occurred worldwide, more than 95% of them in Africa and Latin America.4
Estimates show that 215 million women worldwide need family planning methods services that limit or space childbearing. 5
This unmet need for family planning is even higher among young people, many of whom are just entering their childbearing years.6
Annually, some 47,000 women & girls die due to complications of unsafe abortion (about 13% of maternal deaths). 7
The United Nations defines violence against women as "any act of gender-based violence that results in, or is likely to result in, physical, sexual or mental harm or suffering to women, including threats of such acts, coercion or arbitrary deprivation of liberty, whether occurring in public or in
a. Key issues
We as Young people need to be recognized as equal participants of decision-making process, especially when it comes to issues related to our health and well being. Many of the youth programs, documents and policies are developed without youth involvement. In the cases in which there is some involvement it is typically not as equal participants. Under the 10 DoA campaign we promote meaningful youth participation in decision making emphasizing on the opportunity for us to be actively involved and contribute in planning, implementation and evaluation processes. The 10 DoA is platform to be recognized and address our SEXUAL AND REPRODUCTIVE HEALTH AND RIGHTS needs to decision makers at national and international levels.
We strongly believe that in-time provided comprehensive sexuality education (CSE) are necessary to be informed, skilled and remain protected from risky behavior. Many youth in different countries face traditional and cultural barriers to qualified SRH information and services. Additionally, young people endure resistance to recognition of their SEXUAL AND REPRODUCTIVE HEALTH AND RIGHTS needs and accessing to basic services due to existing community foundations.Providing with proper information in-time, particularly in the transitional stage, further shapes behavior and attitude to health issues. There needs to be Youth Friendly Services (YFS) in order to fully satisfy youth SEXUAL AND REPRODUCTIVE HEALTH AND RIGHTS. YFS is a comprehensive approach contributing to meet youth SEXUAL AND REPRODUCTIVE HEALTH AND RIGHTS needs.
Having all these in mind, we suggest the following key issues to be reflected under the theme of the campaign:
Meaningful youth participation
Comprehensive sexuality education
Youth friendly health services
These key issues should be core ideas for planned activities at national and international level. The prioritization of key issues could be different according to country specificity and cultural aspects.
b. Messages
Below are sample of the messages that will be promoting during the campaign related to the three areas of focus , they will be developed further based on the countries priorities and needs by the beginning of August after selecting the joining countries
We Demand Meaningful Youth Participation
With half of the world’s population under the age of 25, we call our leaders from around the world to engage us as valuable partners in decision making bodies and processes that affect our SEXUAL AND REPRODUCTIVE HEALTH AND RIGHTS
Meaningful youth participation is involving us as partners from the start to finish not only as recipients
We Demand Comprehensive Sexuality Education 10
Each day, 2400 more young people are infected with HIV7 and more than half of all new STI infections (180,000 million) are among youth 13also About 2.5 million adolescents have unsafe abortions each year, often with complications more serious than those experienced by older women.14
This rise as an urgent need to address young people’s need for comprehensive sexuality education ; We demand the right to have access to Comprehensive Sexuality Education. This will prepare us fully enjoy our sexual life, have comprehensive knowledge about our body and sexuality and protect ourselves from unplanned pregnancy, sexually transmitted infections including HIV.
We Demand Youth Friendly Health Services
We want accessible, free or affordable, non-judgmental, confidential, comprehensive sexual and reproductive health information and services with no required parental consent. Accessibility includes services that are highly promoted; open at convenient times, communicated in easily understandable language with low literacy materials, in a flexible and convenient location.
